Coven Gathering Party: Witchcraft, spells, sisterhood and margaritas!

Each season I host a gathering of sorts for close friends and family. The gatherings are centered around a theme, a craft and of course delicious food & delights. As with Richard Gilmore, I too, am an Autumn. Born on the 1st of October, a Libra, a fall-loving girl, and with Halloween as my favorite holiday, this is my favorite time of year to plan a gathering!

I have always been drawn to celestial, etherial, the occult and even the macabre. A couple years ago I had joined a local witch group where we met weekly together crafting, learning about the history of witchcraft & spells, became students of tarot and spent time building friendships. Over the years, I have been to several tarot readers and mediums, and have learned to tap into my own intuition. I have built quite a collection of decks, books, herbs, crystals, tools and talismans. So, when it came to decide on a theme for our Halloween gathering, it was simple - witches! I put together the flyer and delivered it to my coven.

Since the end of August, I started to gather items of my collection and began curating the centerpiece of the dining table. The vibes - a seasoned witch's apothecary. I added a few new items to accent the theme sourcing from Home Goods, Ross, and local witchcraft shops.

I planned to have a few crafting activities for the ladies to keep busy while I did tarot readings for those that wanted to participate. I found canvases at Michael's that had witchy scenes already printed on them - making it easy for all levels of skill.

I wanted them to leave the party with their own little assortment of witchcraft essentials. I sourced a wide assortment of herbs for them to make their own spell jars and simmer pot bags. And, I collected a variety of palo santo smudge sticks, crystals and polished stones for them to make altar sachets. From Trader Joe's, I found mini cinnimon brooms for them to take home and place near their doorways. And, I surprised them with AI generated portraits of them as witches placed in frames for them to take home! At each of their place settings, they discovered their portraits, along with a mini cauldron fille with a few supplies needed to do their crafting along with a mini broom and witches hat.

To add to the ambiance, I used remote controlled pillar candles, votive and hanging tapers. And for a touch of magic, I made a bewitched cauldron with a ladel stirring the potion. For this, it's quite simple. All you need are a few supplies. At the bottom of the cauldron, I placed a small motorized rotating display platform. On that I used Gorilla tacky gum to attach one of my drinking glasses to, and inside that I used more tacky to attach the wooden ladel to. At the bottom of the cauldron, I also added a string of green LED battery operated lights. And, then I topped it off with polyfill for that bubbling look. There are other methods out there - you can add an LED-lit misting machine, or glue clear plastic ornaments to look like large bubbles. Whatever your choice, it will surely impress your guests!

Everyone brought something yummy to share - we had quite the magnificent spread! We enjoyed roasted chicken with vegetables, Italian sausage & kale soup served in a pumpkin, hot brie and caramelized onion dip, broomstick sausages, spinach dip, bean dip, fruit salad, and so so so much more!

The whole evening was a magical hit! Here are some more details and behind the scenes on the creation of this event.
